PI’s Dr. Dinesh Shah of the Dept of OB/GYN at UW-Madison and Dr. Oliver Wieben of the Dept Medical Physics have been awarded a $4,000,000 U01 by NIH as part of the NIH Placental Project. They will lead a team of 11 faculty across the School of Medicine and Public Health at UW-Madison, including members of ERP. The goal of the application is to develop brand new imaging techniques to use in the earliest stages of pregnancy. This will serve as the world’s first early warning system for pregnancy complications, and they will be doing it right here in Madison, Wisconsin.

The clinical studies will be carried out as a collaboration between Meriter Hospital and Birthing Center, and the UW-Madison SMPH Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology. To develop the new imaging techniques they will be collaborating with the UW SMPH depts of Radiology and Medical Physics (working through the MR Research Group). These clinical studies are also supported by the Image Analysis Core (IMAC) Facility at WIMR, and the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research.
